  • Donation Quilt
    • The 2018 Piecemakers By The Bay Quilt Guild Donation Quilt represents the theme of “Down Memory Lane.”  Blocks feature the importance of women and home in our quilt making tradition.  The center of the quilt honors our grandmothers with the “Grandmother’s Choice” block.  The next round is “Sister’s Choice” honoring all the “sister’s” who are a part of our quilting support as role models, as mentors, as well as siblings.  These two blocks are the same in design but differ in the coloration just as we are of the same ancestral stock but have our own generational differences.  The third round of appliquéd flowers represent the traditional female role of maintaining the beauty of our homes, inside and out.  The last round surrounds and protects the center through the “Log Cabin” block that has long symbolized home for quilters of many generations.  We often finish quilts with borders and the outer border also express the theme.  The leaf embellished curves and blossoms represent our continuing thirst and resourcefulness for artistic endeavors in the quilting world.  Colors of red and green dominate but range from dark magentas to light pinks and from almost chartreuse green to dark olive greens.  Fabrics are as graphic and modern as Kaffe Fasset’s brilliant, large florals, as subdued and traditional as Moda’s cottage pastels and as intense as Hoffman’s Bali batiks.  —-  The quilt has been designed by Sharon Wasteney, made by Peggy Mckay, Judy McKinley, Lois Sitton and Sharon Wasteney and quilted by Melody Mauch.   It measures 85 x 101.
